Underground Line Closures 10/11 September 2005: On London Underground, the Circle, Discrict and Waterloo & City Lines will be closed over the weekend of 10/11 September 2005 for track maintenance (see TfL: Planned Tube track closures). The suggested arrival routes below allow for these planned closures.

From: London Heathrow Airport (LHR) Airport

To Goldsmiths (Tutorial Venue on Sunday 11 September)

Piccadilly Underground Line to Central London, change at Green Park onto the Jubilee Line to Canada Water, then the East London Line to New Cross or New Cross Gate. Time: about 90 mins.

To Queen Mary (Conference Venue & Campus Accommodation)

Faster route: Heathrow Express to Paddington, then by Bakerloo Undergound Line southbound to Oxford Circus. Change onto the Central Line to Mile End. Time: about one hour (5 mins longer from Terminal 4).

Cheaper route: Piccadilly Underground Line to Central London, change at Holborn onto the Central Line to Mile End. Time: about 90 mins.

Special note if arriving at Terminal 4 (T4)

London Underground's Heathrow Terminal 4 station is closed until 2006. A bus shuttle runs to Hatton Cross to join the Piccadilly Line. If travelling by Underground, allow an extra 20 minutes. From: London Gatwick Airport (LGW) Airport

To Goldsmiths (Tutorial Venue on Sunday 11 September)

Train from the station in the airport to East Croydon station. Change there and take the first train to New Cross Gate. Time: about one hour.

To Queen Mary (Conference Venue & Campus Accommodation)

Arriving Sat 10/Sun 11 September: Train (Thameslink) to London Bridge, then by Northern Underground Line to Bank. Change onto Central Line to Mile End. Time: about one hour.

Arriving by Fri 9 September or from Mon 12 September: Train (Thameslink) to Blackfriars, then by District line to Stepney Green. Time: about one hour.


From: London Stansted Airport (STN) Airport

To Goldsmiths (Tutorial Venue on Sunday 11 September)

Train to Liverpool Street, then by Hammersmith and City Underground Line to Whitechapel. Change onto East London Underground Line to New Cross or New Cross Gate. Time: about 90 mins.

To Queen Mary (Conference Venue & Campus Accommodation)

Train to Liverpool Street, then by Central Line to Mile End. Time: about one hour.


From: London City Airport (LCY) Airport

To Goldsmiths (Tutorial Venue on Sunday 11 September)

The airport is five miles from Goldsmiths. Take the shuttle bus to Canning Town. Catch a Jubilee Underground Line westbound to Canada Water, then the East London Line to New Cross or New Cross Gate. Time: about 45 mins.

To Queen Mary (Conference Venue & Campus Accommodation)

The airport is five miles from Queen Mary. Take the shuttle bus to Canning Town. Catch a Jubilee Underground Line to Stratford, then the Central Line to Mile End. Time: about 50 mins.

Taxi from London City

Both Goldsmiths and Queen Mary are about 5 miles away from London City Airport. For a faster journey you may wish to consider getting a Taxi ("black cab"). The fare to Goldsmiths or Queen Mary will probably be about £10-£15, or £25-£30 to Central London.


From: London Luton Airport (LTN) Airport

To Goldsmiths (Tutorial Venue on Sunday 11 September)

Shuttle buses connect the airport to Luton Airport Parkway station, from where you catch the Thameslink to London Bridge, then travel by train to New Cross or New Cross Gate stations. Time: about 2 hours.

To Queen Mary (Conference Venue & Campus Accommodation)

Shuttle bus to Luton Airport Parkway station, then Thameslink Rail to Farringdon. Change to the Metropolitan or Hammersmith & City Underground Line to Liverpool Street, then change to the Central Line to Mile End. Time: about 90 mins.


From: Waterloo International Station (Eurostar) Eurostar

To Goldsmiths (Tutorial Venue on Sunday 11 September)

Jubilee Underground Line eastbound to Canada Water, then change to the East London Line to New Cross or New Cross Gate. Time: about 20 mins.

To Queen Mary (Conference Venue & Campus Accommodation)

Northern Underground Line northbound to Tottenham Court Road Station. Change onto the Central Line to Mile End. Time: about 30 mins.
